Kiso lacquerware
Kiso lacquerware was developed as lacquerware for everyday use by ordinary people. Rather than being luxury items, the region specialized in practical, everyday lacquerware, and even today, many items are designed for casual use.
Chopsticks made from Kiso hinoki (Japanese cypress) are extremely lightweight and easy to handle, making them ideal for noodles and suitable for everyone, from small children to the elderly. In recent years, lacquered wristwatches and lacquered wine glasses have also become increasingly popular as souvenirs.
