Narai-juku
Narai-juku is a historic post town located at the midpoint of the Nakasendo, one of the five major routes connecting Edo (Tokyo) and Kyoto. It was the busiest of the eleven post towns in the Kiso region, earning the nickname "Narai Senken" (meaning "a thousand houses of Narai"). Lined with well-preserved Edo-period buildings, the town was designated as a National Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings in 1978.
Visitors can explore historical museums, enjoy local specialties such as Gohei-mochi, and shop for Kiso lacquerware souvenirs.
